PBI Quality Check

Follow these to score a perfect 11/11.

Use it as a check for each of your designs.

How much do you score?

  1. Background created and stored in Corel.com
    • Ensure the client’s logo appears on at least one (overview) page (preferably top-left or top-center).
    • Use a 720 × 1400 resolution (also set this in the Power BI page size).
    • Format all fixed visual components in the background
  2. Color theme (.json) is used
    • Identify the 3 main brand colors from the client’s website.
    • Use https://coolors.co/ to generate 3–4 additional colors.
    • Make sure the palette includes at least one green, red, and grey.
    • Store in git folder
  3. Colors are applied correctly throughout the report
    • Use the main (dark) brand color for the background together with #F7F7F7.
    • Use accent colors for charts or key highlights.
    • Keep the palette small, consistent, and high-contrast.
    • Use colors to guide attention (not decorate), and avoid “rainbow visuals.”
  4. Clear and consistent formatting is used
    • Use formatting only when it improves understanding.
    • Apply clear signs for direction: green/red arrows for % changes, green/amber/red dots for performance levels.
    • Use the same formatting logic across all pages.
    • Keep it clean — max 2–3 formatted columns per table/matrix.
  5. UX is clean and intuitive
    • Place the date filter at the top-right and keep all filters together at the top.
    • If you use more than 2 field parameters, position them on the left so users see how they influence the report.
    • Maintain consistent spacing, alignment, and layout across pages to reduce cognitive load.
  6. Visual Interactions are applied consistently
    • Test all filter and highlight behavior between visuals.
    • Only use highlight when it clearly helps (e.g., few categories).
  7. Page names are according to best practices
    • Confirm the preferred language (English/Dutch/German).
    • Avoid repetition (e.g., report “Purchase” → page “Overview,” not “Purchase Overview”).
  8. Header icons are removed (except for chart visuals)
  9. Environment is clean

    • Naming convention of Workspace, Semantic Model and Visuals pbix are double-checked
    • Connections are configured (for semantic models)
    • Refresh is tested
    • RLS is configured and tested
  10. Publication Checklist is applied

    • Slicers are set to default
    • Filters are removed or set to default if not needed
    • Start / Main tab is selected
    • Remove all search text in slicers.
  11. Naming Conventions are respected
