Analyst Business Case (Candidate View)

Background Info

Imagine I'm a client, and you are a Power Partners BI consultant.

You have 60 minutes to come up with the design of a dashboard that will solve my problem.

You will be measured by the following:

  1. Asking the right questions → getting to the core of the problem

  2. Finding a solution that will solve my problem

  3. Specifically

    1. Design: have you come up with a specific design that I understand and that answers my questions. Use any tool you would like that helps (wireframe or mockup on paper or in a digital tool, use case, bullet points, etc.)
    2. Feasibility and Suitability: is your proposal realistic for a client like Salesonite, can it be achieved in a reasonable time frame for acceptable cost?
  4. You will get extra points for a good estimate (in required implementation time)

Business Case

I am the manager of Salesonite. We sell books, staples (stationary) and gifts.
We would like to know how well we are doing, by different criteria.

Tips

  1. Ask me as many questions as you want (about the business, about our clients, about what I want, why, who will be using the solution, etc.)
  2. If you are completely lost, you can ask me to step outside the role play

  3. If you don't know something, we prefer you to be honest about it. You are not expected to know everything.

  4. The case is made up, the companies do not exist.

Gamification Gimmicks

Like in real life (and in TV shows), you can get help from outside. You'll get:

  • one call to a Power BI Expert. He can answer you at most 2 questions about Power BI
  • one call to the IT company. They can help you with technical aspects of the data source.
  • one call to your boss. He can give you a second opinion on the project, estimates, complexity, etc.
